Design Story

The composition is built around one focal panel: a circular emblem framed in rope, centred on a ship's wheel, anchored below, with a bold orange block letter at its core. Above it curves the reading THE VOL NAVY. Beneath, the wordmark stacks TENNESSEE over KNOXVILLE in tightening scale, a clean typographic hierarchy that lets the eye descend naturally. Low on the vessel, sculpted wave relief runs quietly around the base, echoing the nautical theme without shouting. The palette is disciplined — near-black navy, aged gold, one strike of orange — so the tonal contrast does the work that extra colour usually tries to.

Use & Experience

On a tall tumbler silhouette, that vertical proportion matters. The crest sits at chest height in the hand, the negative space above and below keeps it framed, and the gold banding at the rim closes the composition.
