The composition is genuinely smart. A deep arched panel frames the spired cathedral at center, drawing the eye upward through towers and banners toward a stormy sky, while the stone stairway funnels attention back down to the crowned crest, crossed swords and fleur-de-lis at the base. Two seated gargoyles anchor the left and right edges like bookends, and the border does the rest — helms, lion shields, ravens and gold scrollwork against near-black and oxblood. Aged gold detailing keeps the dark field from flattening. It is still, not sleeping: the tension comes from contrast and hierarchy, not motion.
